Questions 4-20-11

1. Which of the 8 rules of Media Literacy is illustrated in the Beauty and Body Image article? Why and how?
The Beauty and Body Images article illustrates the 4th rule because it is a business and commercial. It advertises and tells us what is good in our life.

2. The article on advertising to children is a great example of media constructing reality (#2 rule of Media Literacy). Can you think of an example of media constructed reality aimed at teens? Tell me what it is and how it constructs reality.
An example of media constructed reality aimed at teens is when a new song is introduced in the radio and a lot of people like listening to music and the radio.

3.The commercial implications (#4) of media literacy are illustrated in The Economics of Ethnicity link. Do you think most media does a good job of showing what your real life is like? The number of minority people you see daily, the kinds of problems you have in real life, the way those problems get solved - are these things that you see in TV shows, movies and advertising?
Yes, I think most media does a good job of showing what your real life is like because some commercials teach me stuff.

Commercial

In our group for Media Arts, we made a commercial about Ms.Pon's 6th period Advance Orchestra. We first put Ms.Chu's hand playing the piano showing them how professionally they could play. Then we recorded the three bassist in Ms.Pon's class playing the bass. It was easy making the commercial but it was only our first time.

High School

The high school that accepted me is Galileo Academy of Science & Technology. When I first heard that I was accepted to Galileo, I was excited because that was my first choice. My second choice was Washington and my third was Lincoln. I decided to go to Galileo because my cousins go there. I hope I will like being in Galileo.

T.V Advertisement

I like the Chuckie Cheese advertisement because it makes me think of my childhood times when I use to go there when it was my cousin's birthday. The slogan for Chuckie Cheese is "Where a kid can be a kid!"

PSA

In our group, we made a PSA about no littering. We wanted to make this PSA because we want to help the world be more clean. We made the PSA from iMovie. Our idea about littering was to peel an orange and dump it on the floor so it would look like he was littering. There were volunteers that came from San Francisco Film Society.

When we first started our PSA, it was boring but after we recorded everything, it got more fun. We recorded Anthony peeling the orange and dumped it on the floor. Then we recorded the peels dropping on the floor. At the end, we reversed it and added it on iMovie. Our PSA slogan is "Don't litter. It's not that hard to throw it in the trash!"

M.C. Escher Assignment

M.C. Escher was an artist who made a picture that was similar to the one up top. He made this picture with many perspectives. Some are going in one direction and some are in the other. I kept on having to turn my head to see where it goes and which way it's facing. It was hard making this picture.

Homework Assignment

We watched a movie called "Star Wars". Death Star is like a weapon that is use to destroy the planets. The Galactic Empire was attacking the Death Star at the beginning of the movie.
Princess Leia was getting chased by Darth Vader around the galaxy because he was looking for the plans that Princess Leia tried to his. He accused Princess Leia as a traitor. Darth Vader tried to make Princess Leia tell the location of where she hid the plans. It was actually in the robot.
Luke Skywalker was the leader in struggle against the Galactic Empire. He joined the Rebel Alliance and saved Princess Leia. He went to find Obi-Wan Kenobi and went to help Princess Leia out. Obi-Wan Kenobi gave Luke the light saber that his dad left behind. That's why he's an important character in the movie.

Book Selection Homework

I chose a book called "A New Hope". I saw that the others looked interesting too but I decided to read this one instead. I picked this book because the cover of the book was interesting and it caught my eye. I wanted to read more about Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance. I read the back of the book and saw interesting facts so then I thought this might be a good book to read. When I read the book, it was more interesting than only reading the back.

Star Wars V Plot Summary

The movie begins in a icy planet called Hoth. When Luke Spywalker was patrolling near the base, he told Han Solo that he was going to return late because a meteor had crashed. When he was looking around, he was attacked by a Wampa. Han Solo left the Rebellion to pay the debt to Jabba the Hutt. Han went to look for Luke because he did not return in the evening. Luke got trapped in a cave by the Wampa. He got his light saber and sliced the Wampa's arm off and he escaped.

Luke Spywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo were important figures in the Rebel Alliance. Darth Vadar was on the dark side of the force. Darth Vadar is obsessed with looking for Luke. Han Solo was involved in the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. George Lucas described Han Solo as a loner who realizes the importance of being part of a group and helping a common good.

I think this was a great movie and story because it was about super natural. First, when I looked at the beginning, it didn't look interesting until it came to the part when he had to pull the saber out of the ice. It became more and more interesting. I liked the part when he was pulling the saber out of the ice. We found the goofs that were in the movie.

Watching Star Wars Do No

We watched Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. It was a snowy day. When Luke was hanging in the ice, he found a light saber stuck in the ice. When he tried to grab the light saber, the saber came to his hand. Luke attacked the monster with the saber and killed the monster. They were on a frozen planet. The people in orange were in a battle.
